     William Gwaltney was born a 1645 at Isle of Wight Co, Virginia. He was the son of Thomas Gwaleney and Mary (Unknown). William Gwaltney married Alice Flake a 1659 at Isle of Wight Co, Virginia. William Gwaltney died a 1725 at Isle of Wight Co, Virginia.

     Alice Flake was born a 1639. She married William Gwaltney, son of Thomas Gwaleney and Mary (Unknown), a 1659 at Isle of Wight Co, Virginia.

      On "1 July 1696...Robert Flacke Sr. gives to William Gwaltney and John Gwaltney, two sons of William Gwaltney of Surry County, by Alice Gwaltney, his wight... 450 acres which were patented in Isle of Wight Co but are now in Surry Co. Should either Will or John die, the land is to go the next son of William Gwaltney and Alice or to their daughter Kathrine." Alice was a great grandaughter of Captain Thomas Warren, member of the Virginia House of Burgess and builder of the Rolfe-Warren House in Surry Co., VA, which is one of the oldest brick houses in Virgina. (Surry Co, VA Deed Book 5.)

     Thomas Williamson was born a 1553 at London, England. He married Ann (Unknown) a 1585.

     Ann (Unknown) was born a 1555 at London, England. She married Thomas Williamson a 1585.

     Richard Williamson II was born a 1620. He was the son of Richard Williamson I and Margaret Sherwood. Richard Williamson II died a 1678 at Virginia.

     James Williamson was born a 1622. He was the son of Richard Williamson I and Margaret Sherwood.

     John Williamson was born a 1625. He was the son of Richard Williamson I and Margaret Sherwood.

     John Allen was born a 1569 at England.

      Geographical factors were used to examine where the immigrant Col. John Allen's parents may have been from:
--In Droitwich where Col. John Allen was christened 9 Allen children were christened between 1599 and 1617 at the Droitwich church with birth patterns indicating at least two families with fathers named John Allen. Droitwich is about 6 miles northeast of the center of Worcester city.
--A Johes Allen was married on 1 Nov 1593 to Margareta Harte in Leigh with Bransford, Worcester, England. This marriage occurred before the birth of the first Allen child in Droitwich. Leigh is about 6 miles southwest of the center of Worcester.
--A Johes Allen was christened on 3 May 1577 in Badsey, Worchester, England by his father Godfridi Allen. Badsey is about 12 miles southeast of the center of Worcester.
Thus, Col John Allen's parents MAY have been Margareta Harte and Johes Allen, son of Godfridi Allen.

     Unknown Tucker was born a 1570. He died a 1667.

     Elizabeth Allen was born a 1638. She was the daughter of Col. Arthur Allen and Alice Tucker. Elizabeth Allen married Capt. Robert Caufield a 1648. Elizabeth Allen married William Bridger a 1655. Elizabeth Allen married Joseph John Jackman a 1695.

     Capt. Robert Caufield was born a 1633. He married Elizabeth Allen, daughter of Col. Arthur Allen and Alice Tucker, a 1648.

      Robert Caufield, the son of William Caufield and his wife Dorcus, owned land and lived in Chippoakes Parish of Surry Co, VA. Robert also owned 1,950 acres in Southwarke Parish in the Hog Island area. Robert was appointed Justice of Peace in Surry Co. on 28 Jun 1642.

Robert and his wife probably did not have any children because he left most of his estate to his wife's siblings Elizabeth, Katherine and James in his 2 Jan 1691 will.

     Joseph John Jackman was born a 1638. He married Elizabeth Allen, daughter of Col. Arthur Allen and Alice Tucker, a 1695.

      John Jacksman was appointed Sheriff of Surry Co, VA on 19 Mar 1707/08.

     Katherine Allen was born a 1636 at Surry Co, Virginia. She was the daughter of Col. Arthur Allen and Alice Tucker. Katherine Allen married Robert Johnson a 1662 at Virginia. Katherine Allen died in 1693 at Isle of Wight Co, Virginia.

      That Katherine Allen was the wife of Robert Johnson is based on two deeds she signed with him in 1690 and 1692.

     Robert Johnson was born a 1638. He married Katherine Allen, daughter of Col. Arthur Allen and Alice Tucker, a 1662 at Virginia.

     Maj. Arthur Allen was born a 1645 at Surry Co, Virginia. He was the son of Col. Arthur Allen and Alice Tucker. Maj. Arthur Allen married Katherine Baker a 1678. Maj. Arthur Allen died on 19 May 1710 at Surry Co, Virginia. His estate was probated on 5 Sep 1710 at Surry Co, Virginia.

      Maj. Arthur Allen built Claremont Manor in the decade 1710-1720. All of his children and his wife predeceased him. Arthur left Claremont Manor to his nephew William Allen, a minor in 1741. Arthur was Justice of Surry Co, Speaker of the House of Burgess in 1688 and is buried in the Allen Family Cemetery at Claremont, Surry Co, VA.

Thomas Swann of Southwarke Parish sold to Arthur Allen of Lawnes Creek Parish for 300 pounds sterling ... land bought from Arthur Allen and Katherine Allen which was 2,050 acres patented by her father, Capt. Lawrence Baker of Lawnes Creek Parish on 24 April 1667 and 350 acres patented by said Arthur Allen on 14 Jun 1678. Witnesses: Henry Tooker and William Brown. Recorded 6 Mar 1693. (Surry County, VA Will Book 4 page 352) So for some reason Swann is apparently selling land he bought from Arthur and Kathryn back to them.

On 25 Apr 1701 William Edwards and Maj. Arthur Allen received a grant for 800 acres on the south side of Black Water Swamp for transporting 16 people into Virginia. That same date Arthur Allen was granted 1,800 acres on the south side of Black Water Swamp for bringing 36 people into Virginia.

     Katherine Baker was born a 1658. She married Maj. Arthur Allen, son of Col. Arthur Allen and Alice Tucker, a 1678.

     Mary Allen was born a 1648. She was the daughter of Col. Arthur Allen and Alice Tucker. Mary Allen married Capt. Arthur Long a 1668 at Surry Co, Virginia. Mary Allen died c 27 Jan 1679 at Surry Co, Virginia.

     Capt. Arthur Long was born a 1643. He married Mary Allen, daughter of Col. Arthur Allen and Alice Tucker, a 1668 at Surry Co, Virginia.

     Mathew Atkinson II was born a 1606. He was the son of Matthew Atkinson I. Mathew Atkinson II immigrated in 1635.

     Margaret Browne was born a 1603. She married Richard Williamson I, son of Thomas Williamson and Ann (Unknown), a 1640.

     Isabel Allen was born a 1650. She was the daughter of Col. Arthur Allen and Alice Tucker. Isabel Allen married William Mayo b 1677 at Isle of Wight Co, Virginia.

      The 1677 will of John Hardy, second husband of Alice Tucker, acknowledged his son-in-law (ie, step-son) William Mayo, the husband of Isabel Allen.

     John Hardy was born a 1607. He married Alice Tucker, daughter of Unknown Tucker, a 1671 at Surry Co, Virginia. His estate was probated on 9 Jun 1677 at Isle of Wight Co, Virginia.

     

     Daniel Tucker was born a 1588. He was the son of Unknown Tucker. Daniel Tucker died a 1690 at Surry Co, Virginia.

      In a 1668 court deposition in Surry Co, VA Arthur Allen, age 60, testified that he and brother (in-law) went to James City to see a horse.... Daniel Tucker, aged 55, testified that while at his brother (in-law) Allen's house, he saw the horse.... (Surry Co, VA Records, Book 1 p 306, 7 Jul 1668) Thus Daniel Tucker was a brother of Alice Tucker Allen, however there were a number of Daniel Tuckers in Virginia and no evidence clearly shows which Daniel Tucker this is.

A Capt William Tucker, age 36, was on the 1624-25 Virginia Muster Index as arriving in Virginia in 1610, with a wife Elizabeth who arrived in 1623, and a daughter Elizabeth born in Virginia. This Capt. William Tucker would have been born about 1588, thus 19 years older than Alice, and there is no data to support this William Tucker being her brother.

     Peggy Lewis was born a 1727. She was the daughter of Richard Lewis. Peggy Lewis married Capt. William Whitehead II, son of Col. William Whitehead I and Rachel (Unknown), a 1746.

     Richard Lewis was born a 1700. He died b 1744.

      Division of Richard Lewis' estate among the widow, Richard Lewis, Jacob Pope, Wm. Whitehead (husband of Miss Lewis), John Crowell, Mary Lewis and Patience Lewis, pursuant to an order of Court dated May 1744. The two young women, Mary Lewis and Patience Lewis, were made equal to what others had been given from the estate of the deceased. (Joseph W. Watson, Estate Records of Edgecombe Co, NC 1730-1820, 6 Nov 1744, August Court 1746.)

     Elizabeth Sugars was born a 1702. She was the daughter of John Sugars. Elizabeth Sugars married Elias Fort III a 1722 at Surry Co, Virginia. Elizabeth Sugars married William Bynam b 21 Jul 1725. Elizabeth Sugars died in 1773 at Southampton Co, Virginia.

      On May 20, 1724, Elizabeth Foot (Fort) returned an inventory of Elias Foot’s estate, and on July 21, 1725 Elizabeth Bynum returned an additional inventory. This latter return shows Elizabeth Foot married a Bynum between these dates. (Margaret M. Hoffman, Genealogical Abstracts of Wills 1758-1824 - Halifax Co, NC)

Elizabeth Bynum's will named five children by her second husband: William, Benjamin, and Michael Bynum, and Abigail Whitehead and Colia (Celia?) Bryant.

     Elias Fort III was born a 1697. He married Elizabeth Sugars, daughter of John Sugars, a 1722 at Surry Co, Virginia. Elias Fort III died in 1724.

     William Bynam was born a 1698. He married Elizabeth Sugars, daughter of John Sugars, b 21 Jul 1725.

     Colia /Celia Bynam was born a 1735. She was the daughter of William Bynam and Elizabeth Sugars. Colia /Celia Bynam married Unknown Bryant a 1755.
