Father:John Weathers I (24 Jan 1725 - 27 Mar 1812)
Mother:Judith "Judy" Foreman (a 1727 - b 1800)
Nancy Weathers was born on 1 Jul 1749 at Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co, Virginia. She was the daughter of John Weathers I and Judith "Judy" Foreman.
If she survived to adulthood and followed the social norms of the time, Nancy Weathers would have married about 1767-1769 and therefore likely stayed in Virginia with her family. Other than her birth record, nothing more about her has been found.

Nancy Weathers has been confused with two other women with the same name. Nancy was not the Nancy Weathers who married Jacob Tethro (Totherow) with a bond posted by Jacob Tethro and Thomas Weathers on 7 Jul 1814. This Nancy consistently appeared later on the McMinn Co, TN census as born about 1799 whereas our Nancy was definitely born 1749 based on the Overwharton Parish register. The Nancy born about 1799 might be the daughter of this Thomas Weathers on the bond who Ralph V. Withers believes could be the brother of George, son of James born in the 1750s. Nancy could also be the daughter of Hugh, who was residing in McMinn.

Nancy Weathers was also not the person of the same name who married Moses Beaty on 1 Dec 1800 in Mechlenburg Co, NC because the presumed wife in the 1820 census was producing young children and our Nancy was about age 71 in 1820.

Father:John Weathers I (24 Jan 1725 - 27 Mar 1812)

John Weathers II was born on 14 Mar 1752 at Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co, Virginia. He was the son of John Weathers I and Judith "Judy" Foreman.
John Weathers II's birth was noted in 1752 in the Overwharton Parish register. He reportedly married Catherine "Caty," but no marriage record has been found.

Wikitree shows John as born 1763 and marrying Rebecca Beckwith Kelsick in 1790 in Richmond Co, VA, but this is not the same man.

Additionally, the John Weathers noted as marrying Nancy Irwin in 1806 with Elisha Weathers for security would be this John's nephew who moved to Alabama.

The 1790 Chester District SC census showed a Jno Weathers with 1 male over and 1 male under 16 and 3 females who may be John junior the brother of Valentine. Valentine Weathers was living in Chester District at that time.

Eleanor Leanna Weathers1,2

F, ID# 3281, (15 Jan 1757 - )
Father:John Weathers I (24 Jan 1725 - 27 Mar 1812)
Mother:Judith "Judy" Foreman (a 1727 - b 1800)
Eleanor Leanna Weathers was born on 15 Jan 1757 at Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co, Virginia. She was the daughter of John Weathers I and Judith "Judy" Foreman. Eleanor Leanna Weathers married Alexander Johnston on 16 Aug 1778 at Lincoln Co, North Carolina.
The child recorded in 1757 Virginia parish records as Eleanor born to John and Judith Weathers is presumed to be Leanna Weathers, daughter of John Weathers born 1725, who was married in 1779 in Lincoln Co, NC because of the closeness of their births based on the marriage date. The original 16 Aug 1779 marriage bond for 500 pounds from Alexander Jonston (sic) and her father John Wethers supported Alexander's marriage license application to marry Leeanna Wethers (sic). Apparently Adam Baird was the witness to the bond.

Alexander was on the 1799-1806 Georgia property tax list in Capt. Samuels District, Lincoln Co, GA, thus he and his wife were residing in another state in the same county with her brother Valentine.

In his 12 Mar 1805 Lincoln Co, GA will Alexander noted his wife Leannah and sons Samuel and James but also refers to "all my children" implying there were other children. Alexander bequested his two slaves ?arcus ? and Lulu to his wife. Zachariah Spires and William Evans and his wife were the executors and his witnesses were John Walker, Cornelius Johnson (sic) and Sarah Webb. After Alexander's death it is unknown what happened to Leanna as she was not found on property tax records or remarrying in Georgia or North Carolina.

Father:John Weathers (a 1656 - 1686)
Mother:Sarah (Unknown) (a 1665 - )
Charts:Amanda Ola Weathers lineage
Samuel Weathers I was born c 1686 at Old Rappahannock Co, Virginia. He was the son of John Weathers and Sarah (Unknown). Samuel Weathers I married Elizabeth Dunne, daughter of Patrick Dune and Anne Murphy ?, c 1716 at Virginia. Samuel Weathers I died in 1729.
Samuel Weathers lived on the small plantation of his father John Weathers. No land purchase or grant is on record for Samuel, so this land was most likely inherited.

Samuel married Elizabeth Dunne, the daughter of Patrick and Anne Dunne of Richmond Co, VA. North Fanrham Parish served Old Rappahannock Co and then Richmond Co, VA when the new county was created in 1692. The births of their children were recorded in the Old North Farnham Parish Register as was the death of their daughter Susannah. Samuel's son John is presumed to be the same John Weathers who raised a family in Stafford Co, VA before relocating to Lincoln Co, NC.

When Samuel Weathers died in 1729, his wife Elizabeth and four of their children survived him. Samuel's estate inventory was indexed on 4 Jun 1729 in Richmond Co, VA Will Book 5, 1725 - 1753, but this researcher could not locate the will or estate papers in the Library of Viginia. Unless they were destroyed in the war Samuel should have a will, probate, estate settlement and guardian records.

Henry Weathers was born a 1759. He was the son of John Weathers I and Judith "Judy" Foreman.
Researcher Ralph V. Withers believes that the sons of John noted as Henry and as Hugh may be the same man -- Hugh Henry Weathers. The book Our Kin reported Henry Weathers married a mixed Cherokee Indian; lived at or near Helena, Arkansas; and had descendants there "probably on the Mississippi River in Mississippi." Unsourced online trees show Henry died in 1780 at Kings Mountain, Gaston Co, NC and in Mississippi, giving him insufficient time to have progeny. No records were found to support any of these options but a death in Gaston Co would have been logical.

George Weathers1

M, ID# 3286, (a 1782 - )
Father:James Weathers (a 1754 - 1810)
Mother:Jemima "Gimime" (Unknown) (a 1760 - )
George Weathers was born a 1782 at Lincoln Co, North Carolina. He was the son of James Weathers and Jemima "Gimime" (Unknown). George Weathers married Martha "Mattie" Smith on 16 Dec 1807 at Lincoln Co, North Carolina.
George Weathers was included in the 1810 will of James as his son, although the book Our Kin reported George was the son of John born in 1725. Where George was living in 1800 is unknown because James only had sons born between 1785 and 1790 in his home, but researcher Ralph V. Withers noted George inherited land where he had made improvements so George may have been constructing his home. George married Mattie Smith with Isaac Hawkins providing security in 1807.

In 1810 George Weathers and Thomas Weathers with their families were living close to Catherine Weathers Rhyne, the apparent daughter of John Weathers, in Lincoln Co, NC. In 1810 George, age 26 to 44 thus born 1766 to 1784, was living with his presumed wife age 16 - 25 and 2 sons under age 10, a childbirth sequence which aligned with marriage for George to Martha in 1807. The 1830 census showed George was age 50 to 59, thus further refining George's birth range to be 1771 to 1780. In 1820 George and his presumed wife were both enumerated as age 26 - 44 thus born 1776 - 1794 and were living with their 6 children. In 1830 George was still in Lincoln Co and noted as age 50 to 59 with his wife age 40 to 49 and 5 apparent sons and 2 daughters. Living next door was Joel Weathers -- the son of George's uncle Elisha -- with Joel's wife and 4 sons and 4 daughters. Also living nearby was Allen Weathers, the older brother of Joel.

The book Our Kin reported George had the following children: James (Jimps) A. married Margaret Totherow, daughter of John Shrum and Lizzie Totherow; Laban married Adaline Keener; Lawson married Brookes Nevitt; William married Polly Smith, widow of Tilman Jenkins; Oliver married Sally Shrum; John died single in Arkansas; Levie married a Hagar and Moses Stroup Sr; Polly married a Loftin; and Disy and Smith both married -- one to Daniel Thornburg.

Our Kin stated George also probably married Mattie Hoyle but no record for that marriage was found. A Mattie Hoyle was born in 1742 and died in 1763, before George was born, but there may have been other women with that name and the Hoyles did intermarry with the Weathers and signed documents with them.

Living near Catherine and George in 1810 in Lincoln Co was a Thos Weathers, also age 26 to 44, with a presumed wife and young child. This Thomas was likely the man by that name who married Peggy Wells 19 Apr 1808 in Lincoln Co with Elisha Weathers serving as the bondsman, although Elisha was not Thomas' father because Elisha had not started a family. If Thomas and George were brothers, Thomas could be the mentioned but unnamed son in James' 1810 will. Thomas was gone by the time Peggy Wells married Simon Dunn in 1821, if she is the same person, and the children in the household in 1850 in Walker Co, GA are are all Peggy and Simon's children.

Catharine "Annie" Weathers was born a 1789. She was the daughter of John Weathers II. Catharine "Annie" Weathers married David Rhyne on 23 Sep 1807 at Lincoln Co, North Carolina.
The bondsmen for Catherine Weathers' 1807 marriage to David Rhyne were John Wethers and Jacob Forney.

In 1810 David and Catharine, both age 16 to 25, were living in Lincoln Co, but had no children. They were residing a few houses from George and Thomas Weathers and their families.

In 1840 there was a David Rhyne age 50 - 59 residing with his wife age 40 - 49 with 13 children adjacent to Logan Weathers, the son of Elisha, and very near Elisha Weathers and his son Morgan.

By 1870 the couple were enumerated as David and Annie Rhyne, age 85 and 81 respectively, living in Dallas, Gaston Co, NC.

Hugh Weathers1

M, ID# 3288, (c 1766 - )
Father:John Weathers I (24 Jan 1725 - 27 Mar 1812)
Mother:Judith "Judy" Foreman (a 1727 - b 1800)
Hugh Weathers was born c 1766 at Virginia. He was the son of John Weathers I and Judith "Judy" Foreman. Hugh Weathers married Mary Williams ? a 1792. Hugh Weathers died at Monroe Co, TN.
Only circumstantial evidence indicates Hugh Weathers may be the son of John Weathers as noted in the book Our Kin. Family researcher Ralph V. Withers found Hugh listed in the Long Creek Church records as doing some work for the church, but no other records were found for a Hugh Weathers born about 1767. Hugh Weathers may have married a Mary Williams as noted in the book Our Kin, although this researcher did not find a record to support that assumption. Hugh is presumed to be the father of Julia and Agatha, as well as perhaps Nancy, all of whom were born about the same time and resided in McMinn Co, TN.

Our Hugh has been confused with another man with the same name who could potentially be a namesake son. Wm Williamson, Justice of the Peace, married Hugh Weathers and Maryan Wilson in Blount Co, TN on 22 May 1821; the transcription of her name as Maryann Williams is incorrect. This Hugh Weathers in Blount County is not believed to be the correct man because our Hugh would have been about 55 years old and the 1916 death record for his son Robert shows Hugh Weathers of Blount Co, TN was born in Scotland, although that could be an error based on the lack of knowledge of the reporter. In 1830 a Hugh and his presumed wife, both age 30 to 39 and residing in Blount Co, had 2 sons and 2 daughters under 10 and a daughter age 10 to 14; this is likely the man who married in 1821.

On the western side of Tennessee in Sumner Co, there were several men named Hugh Weathers, none of whom appear to be our Hugh. A Hugh H. Weathers married Dolly H. Avent on 27 Jan 1816 in Sumner Co, TN. A Hugh H. Weathers, age 30 to 39 thus born 1791 to 1800, was residing next to a Katharine Weathers, age 70 to 80 in Sumner Co, TN in 1830; this implies this man may have been residing next to his elderly mother with both of them living alone. In 1820 a Hugh Weathers, age up to 45, was residing with his presumed wife and 4 children in Sumner Co, TN, a couple of doors from a Francis M. Weatherred, a John Weatherred, and both Wilson and Williams families. By 1840 a Hugh Weathers appeared with 2 children on the Sumner Co census. Sumner Co is relatively far from North Carolina compared to the Blount and McMinn county area, so is less likely to be where Hugh migrated.

Elizabeth Weathers was born c 1784 at Gaston Co, North Carolina. She was the daughter of John Weathers II. Elizabeth Weathers married John Hanks on 14 Aug 1810 at Lincoln Co, North Carolina.
Elizabeth Weathers' father John was listed on her 1810 marriage bond for her marriage to John Hanks. John Hanks was on the 1810 Capt. Rozeles District, Lincoln Co, NC census with a presumed wife, both age 16 to 26.

John Hanks received a Tennessee land grant in 1826. There were many men named John Hanks in North Carolina but this family is believed to be the one that relocated to McMinn Co, TN by the time of the 1830. A Nancy Weathers was living in McMinn Co, TN but Elizabeth's relationship to this Nancy, if any, is unknown. In 1830 Elizabeth and John were enumerated as age 40 to 49 and were living with 7 children ages 5 to 19.

The 1850 census showed Elizabeth and John, ages 67 and 66 respectively, residing in Subdivision 23, McMinn Co, TN, and in 1860 they continued to live in the county where John was farming. They were the parents of seven known children: Alfred, Catherine, Mary Ann, Jonathan, Leavina, Elizabeth and Hugh.

Mother:Mary Williams ?
Julia Weathers was born c 1808. She was the daughter of Hugh Weathers and Mary Williams ? Julia Weathers married Charles Vincent a 1826.
Julia Weathers is believed to be the daughter of Hugh Weathers and named one of her sons after Hugh. By 1850 Charles and Julia Vincent, age 45 and 42 respectively were living in McMinn Co, Tennessee, and were shown with their children Jane age 19, William 17, Nancy 15, Andy 10 and Hugh 8. They were residing near Samuel Vincent, age 23, likely their son, and his new family. By 1860 the family lived in Meigs Co, TN and had added member Andrew age 20. Nancy age 23, possibly Andrew's wife, or the daughter from the 1850 census was also living in the household.

Julia Weathers was referred to as Juda Weathers in Our Kin, but she was not the daughter of John Weathers as noted in that book.

Agatha "Aggie" Weathers was born a 1795. She was the daughter of Hugh Weathers and Mary Williams ? Agatha "Aggie" Weathers married Vincent Woods a 1814.
Agatha Weathers is presumed to have been born about 1795 to Hugh Weathers, the son of John, because Hugh was living in McMinn Co, TN at that time.

Our Kin erroneously reported Aggie Weathers was a daughter of John Weathers, but the book also stated she married Vincent Wood, which was likely an accurate hint. Hugh Weathers, a son of John, migrated to Tennessee and had children there. In 1830 a Vincent Woods, age 40 - 49, was residing in McMinn Co, TN with his presumed wife age 30 - 39 thus born 1791 - 1800, and a son age 5 - 9 and daughters age less than 10, 10 to 14, and 15 - 20. Also residing in the county were Julia the daughter of Hugh Weathers, andd an unknown Nancy Weathers, who may be related to Julia and Agatha.
