John Smithier was born c 1550 at Gloucestershire, England. He was buried at 'Campdens', Arlington, Gloucestershire, England. His estate was probated on 31 Oct 1626.
Chipping Campden is a small market town in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, England, notable for its elegant terraced High Street dating from the 14th to the 17th century. A rich wool trading center in the Middle Ages, Chipping Campden enjoyed the patronage of wealthy wool merchants. Attractions include the grand early perpendicular wool church of St James – with its circa 1400 cope, circa 1500 medieval altar frontals, and vast and extravagant 17th-century monuments to local wealthy silk merchant Sir Baptist Hicks and his family, including the Woolstaplers Hall and the Almshouses, which provided living and burial facilities for the poor. A wool church is an English church financed primarily by donations from rich merchants and farmers who benefited from the medieval wool trade, hoping to ensure a place in heaven due to their largesse. Hicks was also responsible for his imposing estate called Campden House, which was destroyed by fire during the English Civil War which ended in 1651, possibly to prevent the estate from falling into the hands of the Parliamentarians. All that now remains of Hicks' estate are two gatehouses and two Jacobean banquet houses, restored by the Landmark Trust and Lady Juliana's gateway. Hicks' descendants still live at the Court House attached to the site.

John Smithier likely lived in the mansion or one of the homes also located on the estate because he left enough of an estate to go through probate. John's will was signed 16 Feb 1618 and a codicil added 12 Nov 1619.

John's daughter Bridgett is said to be buried at Bibury Church in Gloucestershire, although this researcher could not find her burial in that church's records. No John Smithiers' births were found in Bibury Church records between 1538 and 1550, the latest date he could have been born and had a daughter Bridget born in 1572. A Johannes Smithier, son of Johannis who was christened 23 Jan 1558 in Bibury, Gloucestershire was born too late to be our ancestor but could potentiall by Bridgett's sibling.
