Mary P. Glenn1,2

F, ID# 11289, (a 1819 - )
Father:John Glenn II (a 1775 - c 1838)
Mother:Naomi Peterson (2 Feb 1779 - Dec 1843)
Mary P. Glenn was born a 1819. She was the daughter of John Glenn II and Naomi Peterson. Mary P. Glenn married Joseph Nelson a 1839.
In the suit filed by Elizabeth Glenn Floyd vs her brother Mark Glenn, administrator of John Floyd, Elizabeth's husband, it was stated that her sister, Mary Glenn Nelson and Mary's husband, Joseph Nelson, left South Carolina four or five years prior but returned a short time after. The Floyds were separated and because Mrs Nelson was deserted by her husband, a trustee, William G. Glenn, was appointed by the Court. James F. Glenn stated when Mrs Mary P. Nelson returned to South Carolina in 1849 she had three children, a daughter, 16 years old, a son of 13 years and a daughter of 8 years, whom she supported through her own labors.

Mary followed her sister Elizabeth in bringing their brother Mark Glenn to court for a better share than she had received of the family estates. In her complaint against her brother Mark filed by her lawyer J. H. Williams on 22 Jun 1852, Mary P. Nelson, by her next friend Josiah Stewart, vs Mark Glenn, administrator and E. P. Lake, Ordinary, submitted a Bill for accounting and to have a Trustee Appointed.

Mary P. Nelson by William W. Houseal, next friend vs William G. Glenn, Bill to Change Trustee and for Accounting. The complaint stated Mary P. Nelson came into an estate on 19 Sep 1854. Her trustee, William G. Glenn, purchased for her land where she resided with her children. Her husband deserted her long ago and the family lived off the fruits of the land and the small interest she received annually from her estate held in trust. William G. Glenn failed in speculation and business and became insolvent. He was in no condition to handle her estate. Mary petitioned the Court to appoint a new trustee and order an accounting of her estate. The Court removed William G. Glenn as trustee of the separate estate of Mary P. Nelson, and appointed William D. Reagin trustee with a surety bond of $3200. The Court also ordered William G. Glenn and his sureties, Mark Glen and Andrew K Tribble, to pay to the estate of Mary P. Nelson $1,037.13 with interest from 12 Jul 1860 and court costs of $966.98. On 1 Jul 1860 the Court decreed Mark Glenn was liable for $250 for which Andrew Tribble was primarily held liable.

In Mark Glenn vs Joseph Nelson and Mary P. Nelson his wife; John Floyd and Elizabeth Floyd his wife; and the children of John Frederick Glenn: William G. Glenn, James C. Glenn and Daniel C. Glenn, a Bill for Partition of Land was filed on 21 Jun 1849. The lawyers were Pope and Caldwell. The 142 acres of land left by their brother Cooper B. Glenn who died 1848 intestate was requested to be partitioned among all legal distributees. A plat of land was included in the papers. The land was sold for $1,846.

Elizabeth Ann Glenn1,2

F, ID# 11297, (Mar 1817 - )
Father:John Glenn II (a 1775 - c 1838)
Mother:Naomi Peterson (2 Feb 1779 - Dec 1843)
Elizabeth Ann Glenn was born in Mar 1817. She was the daughter of John Glenn II and Naomi Peterson. Elizabeth Ann Glenn married John Floyd a 1836.
On 2 Feb 1856 Elizabeth Ann Floyd filed a complaint by her next friend Washington Floyd against her brothers Mark Glenn and Cooper B. Glenn and her husband John Floyd, stating she was entitled to her distribution share of the proceeds arising from the estates of her father John Glenn who died in 1838, her mother Naomi Glenn who died in Dec 1843, her aunt Anna Glenn who died intestate in 1849, and her deceased brothers, namely James Clark Glenn and Cooper B. Glenn.

Because of the depths of her claim Elizabeth recounted the family genealogy. Elizabeth stated six children survived her mother Naomi Glenn: Elizabeth A. Floyd, Mark Glenn, Cooper B. Glenn, Mary Nelson the wife of Joseph Nelson, Lucinda Speer the wife of Jesse Speer, Matilda Williamson the wife of Robert Williamson, and the sons of her deceased brother John Frederick Glenn, namely William G., James F. and Daniel C. Glenn. Elizabeth's brother James Clark Glenn died two or three days before their mother and Cooper B. Glenn administered James' estate. Isabella A. A. Glenn died intestate and without issue on 9 May 1847 and her husband Cooper B. Glenn was administrator; before he completed administering his wife's estate, Cooper died 12 Sep 1847, and her brother Mark administered that estate to which he was entitled to half. The brothers of Anna Glenn, sister of her father John, were William, John and James Glenn, and Anna's sister was Margaret Linsly, mother of John Linsley. Mary P. Nelson stated she and her sister Elizabeth signed over their interest [in her father's estate] to their mother Naomi Glenn for the life of their mother; at the time Elizabeth was not married. Elizabeth was 38 years old in Mar 1855.

Testimony in Elizabeth's suit against her brothers and husband was needed to ensure Elizabeth's husband John Floyd was not given her legacy. John T. Peterson, merchant, testified he would not give John Floyd credit, considering him thriftless, and that John Floyd had four children, two of them daughters who were almost fully-grown. James F. Glenn stated when Elizabeth's sister Mary P. Nelson returned to South Carolina in 1849 she had no means of support. John Floyd lived on the same land with Mary, but James Glenn never saw a crop planted by John. A witness stated John Floyd never could grow anything because as soon as he would plant a crop Washington Floyd (unknown relationship but he brought the suit into court for Elizabeth) would plow it up. He had taken provisions to the Floyd Place because the family was in great need. John Floyd had no land, lived on Burton's place until 1849-1850 and could have made a living there if he tried.

Elizabeth Floyd filed suit by her next friend Levi Longshore vs William D Reagin, Henry Burton, Daniel Goggans, John Floyd for a Bill for Investment of Trust Funds. Elizabeth, the wife of John Floyd, had a separate estate of $2,090, which she was awarded in an Equity case with MARK GLEN as her best friend for her sole use and after her death to her issue. William D Reagan was the present trustee of her estate. She regularly received the interest on her funds until Jan 1867 and she invested part of her funds in a tract of 7 acres of land where she, her husband and her three children lived. The land became useless with no well water and no wood. The previous November she asked her Trustee William Reagan to purchase a portion of the deceased Robert Burton's land adjoining her lot, which had a spring of water and plenty of wood. The trustee declined without authorization. She asked Henry Burton and Daniel Googans to purchase the land and hold it for her until she received the Court's permission. The land was purchased for $1,530 and the purchasers gave their Bond. Elizabeth petitioned the Court to order the land conveyed from Henry Burton and Daniel Goggans to William D Reagan in the name of her trust. The attorneys were Fair/Jones & Jones.

Elizabeth Ann Floyd filed another suit on 22 May 1852 by her next friend Daniel Goggans vs her brother Mark Glenn, administrator of her husband John Floyd's estate: Bill of Revival and Supplement. Her lawyer was J. H. Williams.

Mark Glenn filed a Bill for Injunction and Relief on 27 Aug 1855 against his sister Elizabeth. The lawsuit noted Daniel Goggans bought 6+ acres of land on Bush River for the widow Elizabeth Glenn Floyd in trust. Mark petitioned the Court to stop the purchase until all the estates involved in the case could be settled. Included in the court papers were: Mark and Elizabeth's mother Naomi Glenn's will which named her children and 3 grandsons; a copy of the assignment of the estate [of their father John Glenn] by each of the children to their mother; and the returns for the estate of John Glenn and his wife Naomi Glenn. The suit mentioned Matilda Williamson and Lucinda Galloway, later known as Lucinda Speer, were children from Naomi's former marriage. A special referee, Silas Johnstone, was assigned to the case and on 1 Jan 1856, Naomi Glenn's estate was settled -- 12 years after her death. In 1856, the lawyers Summers and Williams collected their fees. In Feb 1856 Lucinda Speer died; her husband Jesse Speer senior received $114.69; her children Jesse Speer junior, Mary E. Neel, John Galloway and Lucinda Galloway received $45.87 each. The children of Lucinda Speer's deceased daughter Matilda Speer Davenport -- Mary E. and Moses B. Davenport also received $47.87 each.

Father:John Elkins I (1705 - c 1792)
Mother:Elinor (Unknown) (a 1700 - )
Charts:Joel Harper Winslett lineage
Robert Elkins was born a 1740. He was the son of John Elkins I and Elinor (Unknown). Robert Elkins married Sarah Ann Few ? a 1763. Robert Elkins married Elizabeth (Unknown) a 1818. Robert Elkins died in 1820. His estate was probated on 5 Jan 1821 at Kershaw District, South Carolina.
Robert Elkins may have been born in Scotland. Robert and his father and brothers were in old Anson Co, NC in 1757 - 1759 and moved to Fairfield Co, SC by 1760.

According to researcher James Irvin, Robert Elkins first married Sarah Ann and then he married Elizabeth, widow of John Motely Sr. (Kershaw Co. deed book I page 48, signed 11/10/1818.)

In 1810 Robert age 45 and over was residing in Kershaw District, SC with 2 males under age 10, 3 females age 10-15, 1 male and 1 female 16 - 25. Sarah Ann was likely deceased because there did not appear to be a wife in this household.

Robert, over age 45, was living in Kershaw Co, SC in 1810 with 1 male age 10-15, 1 male age 16-25, and 1 female age 26-44.

The Mickle and Jones families were likely long-time associates of the Elkins. Kershaw Co, SC records show on 22 Apr 1789 John Mickle paying for road construction from his landing on the northeast side of the Wateree River to Rocky Mount Road with Darling Jones as a witness. The Mickles were involved with Robert later estate settlement and Darling Jones married Robert's daughter.

Robert's 28 Sep 1820 will provided bequests to his children: Saley Lowry received 25 acres; Milly Dukes [presumed to be Emily] received $25 and no more; and one part each of his estate went to each of his 6 other children Saley, Enos Elkins, Rachael Greene, Rebena Wells, Gad Elkins, and Elizabeth Jones. He also singled out his granddaughter Meranda Dukes for the seventh part to be paid her at age 21. Saley, Rebena and Elizabeth also received the property of their brother Ralph to which their father Robert was entitled by Ralph's death. Joint executors were his friend George Strafford and John Dubose, "present Ordinary for this District." Signed in the presence of Elizabeth Jones and witnessed by Jno. Dubose, Samuel McWiley, and H. Horn, likely Henry Horn the husband of Cecely Dukes and also the Henry Horn who died shortly after in Kershaw Co, SC. Joseph Mickle administered the estate. Robert Mickle and Charles J. Shannon were sureties.

Robert's estate inventory was done by Allen Stewart, Thos. Crim and Jonathan Hays. Buyers at the sale included Jonathan Hays, Darling Jones (husband of Robert's daughter Elizabeth), William Reynolds, Elias Duke (husband of Robert's daughter Milly), Sally Lowry (Robert's daughter), Joseph Mickle, Dempsey Irwin, Henry Horn (husband of Cecely Duke), John Irvin, John Reynolds, and Lison Lew Allin (Lewellyn.)

The final accounting of Roberts' estate filed 5 Mar 1823 provides connections to Elias Duke and therefore to Emily:
Receipts: Joseph Mickle for Robert Elkins, deceased. ___ $52; Eli Dukes: $44.50; Jesse Whitehead: $19.12 1/2; LeRoy Ford: $4.75; James Hogan: $6.56 1/4; Taylor V. Wats: $31; Ephraim Wilson: $6.50, William Melton $59.84 3/4. Total $224.28 1/2.
Expenditures: Robert Colemans store, Taxes, Alfred Brevard, Jesse Whitehead, Eliza J. Horn, Elias Duke, Mrs. Muse, W. Clarkson, Zacharah Bowins, Samuel M. Wiley, Total: $485.08 1/2. Commission:$17.72 1/2

Robert's ancestry back through his great grandparents is based on the research of James Irvin and needs to be verified.
