Father:George Andrew Woodworth (3 Nov 1809 - 28 Jun 1888)
Mother:Mary MacNayr (1808 - 6 Jun 1872)
Erod Woodworth was born on 11 Nov 1838 at New Germany, Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was the son of George Andrew Woodworth and Mary MacNayr. Erod Woodworth married Sarah Wharton on 24 Sep 1861. Erod Woodworth died on 27 Aug 1906 at New Germany, Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia, at age 67.
Erod Woodworth was also referred to as Edward. This researcher mistakenly first read his name as Enoch on the census.

Erod was a well established blacksmith in New Germany where he lived on highway 208 on the west side of New Germany with his blacksmith shop on the opposite side of the road. The pulp mill and Zwickers Mill in New Germany kept his blacksmith shop busy.

Erod and his wife Sarah were Baptists and are buried in St. John's in the Wilderness Anglican Church Cemetery. Their children were all born in New Germany, Nova Scotia:
--Charles Spurgeon, born 7 Mar 1863
--Angus, born 29 July 1864
--Andrew H., born 7 July 1866
--James, born 7 May 1868, died unmarried 15 Nov 1889; believed killed or drowned in a logging accident.
--Sidney, born 9 Feb 1870, a twin; married, no children, lived in Maine and died 29 Oct 1911
--Letitia, born 9 Feb 1870, a twin, married Ainslie Arenburg on 26 Nov 1893 by Rev. G. P. Raymond and resided in New Germany, Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia. She died 17 Mar 1920. --Joseph, born 28 Mar 1872
--Reuben/Rheugen, born 29 Dec 1873
--Jason, born circa 1875 (reads as "Susan" on 1881 Census)

Spurgeon Woodworth moved to the USA and Letitia and her husband Ainslie Arenburg bought her brother Spurgeon's farm which was next to Erod's house. The Spanish Flu hit New Germany in 1920. Ainslie Arenburg moved his sick sister into his home and sadly his sister and his wife Letitia both died from the flu. Ainslie, who was a bitter older, never got sick.

Father:William Woodworth II (11 Mar 1770 - 2 Mar 1846)
Mother:Sophia Dorothea Feindel (24 Oct 1777 - 1878)
Charts:Richard Carl Murphy lineage
George Andrew Woodworth was born on 3 Nov 1809 at Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was the son of William Woodworth II and Sophia Dorothea Feindel. George Andrew Woodworth was christened on 17 Jun 1810 at Saint John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia, Canada. He married Mary MacNayr on 18 Nov 1832 at Lunenburg, Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia. George Andrew Woodworth died on 28 Jun 1888 at New Germany, Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia, Canada, at age 78.
George Andrew Woodworth was the George Woodworth with 3 males and 2 females on the 1861 Lunenburg, Nova Scotia census. His oldest son William H. Woodworth was listed separately with his household of three. On the same census were other Woodworth families who may be related to our line: David with 10 who is likely George's brother; Jeremiah with 10 living next door to Philip with 6; Solomon and Isaac with 4 each; John with 9; and another William with 3 at home.

George Andrew, a farmer age 62, and his wife Mary, age 63, were on the 1871 New Germany, Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia census. They were noted as Baptists of English origins. Living two houses away was their son Erod, a blacksmith age 33, and his family who were also noted as Baptists of English origins. Also seven homes away from George Andrew in 1871 was Ezekiel Woodworth, age 27, his wife Sharlot, age 25 and their presumed daughter Jane who were Church of England members. This was likely George Andrew's nephew James Ezekiel Woodward, born 1844, the son of George David Woodward, living with his first wife C. Louisa born in 1845.

By 1881 George was residing in the household of William and Lavinia Woodworth, age 47 and 42 respectively, with their four children and with George's orphaned grandson Silas Woodworth, and thus William is presumed to be another son of George Andrew. William was noted as a Baptist of English origins. Silas had previously been living with William and Elizabeth Simpson's family.

George and Mary's death details are based on data on their cemetary markers.

William Woodworth II1,2,3,4

M, ID# 2747, (11 Mar 1770 - 2 Mar 1846)
Father:William Woodworth I (a 1742 - 8 Oct 1780)
Charts:Richard Carl Murphy lineage
William Woodworth II was born on 11 Mar 1770 at Quebec, Canada. He was the son of William Woodworth I. William Woodworth II married Sophia Dorothea Feindel, daughter of Georg Michael Feindel and Anna Maria Lord, on 3 Sep 1799 at Saint John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia, Canada. William Woodworth II died on 2 Mar 1846 at New Germany, Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia, Canada, at age 75. He was buried at Saint John's Anglican Church Cemetery, Lunenburg, Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia, Canada.
The DesBrisay Museum in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada has the 20 Dec 1827 Feindel - Woodworth petition in which William Woodworth says, "That your Petitioner William Woodworth is a Native of Quebec and a faithful British Subject having been born in the Army his Father a Soldier a Native of Old England, that your said Petitioner is married has a wife and nine children and is Fifty Years of age and has resided in this Province for thirty years last past. That he obtained an order of Survey in 1802 from the late Sir John Wentworth as set forth by John Feindel Sr. of 400 acres of land at New Germany upon which he has ever since resided with his family has built a house & Barn and has cleared and Improved 25 acres. That his Stock consists of 8 head of Horned cattle and 10 sheep."

Thus William said he was the son of a Woodworth born in Old England who was a British Army soldier; researcher Jeanette Woodworth Behan believed that Old England possibly meant Old Town, Quebec. According Jeanette Woodworth Behan, in 1985 there was no substantial proof of whether William Woodworth's family was descended from the Walter Woodworth family of 1630 in Canada; came directly from England later than Walter Woodworth; or were related to a family of Woodworths descended from Walter and living in the LaColle, Quebec area around the 1770s.

William moved to New Germany, Nova Scotia about 1796 - 1797 and was granted 400 acres in 1802. John Adam Fiendel, a nephew of William's wife Sophia, reminisced about 1889 that "his father went to New Germany in 1804 and Woodworth arrived a few days later." This researcher assumed that meant Woodworth visited Fiendel shortly after the latter's arrival because Woodworth was already living in the county.

In the 1838 Nova Scotia census William was enumerated with five in his household.

A William Woodworth's birth was listed in Halifax Public Archives as 11 Mar 1770, however our ancestor's gravestone at St. John's Anglican Church stated 1776 which is in line with him being age 50 in 1827 as noted in his statement above. William may have made himself younger in his records.

William Henry Woodworth1,2

M, ID# 2752, (30 Nov 1833 - 7 Sep 1910)
Father:George Andrew Woodworth (3 Nov 1809 - 28 Jun 1888)
Mother:Mary MacNayr (1808 - 6 Jun 1872)
William Henry Woodworth was born on 30 Nov 1833 at New Germany, Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was the son of George Andrew Woodworth and Mary MacNayr. William Henry Woodworth married Lavinia Hannah Lohnes on 21 Jan 1861. William Henry Woodworth immigrated in 1899. His estate was probated on 5 Aug 1910 at Essex Co, Massachusetts. He died on 7 Sep 1910 at Ipswich, Essex Co, Massachusetts, at age 76.
William Henry Woodworth was a Baptist. The 1871 Census indicated he may have been born in 1835. He and Lavenia lived in Stanborne, a small town outside New Germany, Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia where William had a farm. While living in Nova Scotia the family attended the Baptist Church at Barrs Corner where William often taught Sunday School. Around 1872 they moved a few miles away to Farmington, Nova Scotia, where William had a one-third interest in a sawmill specializing in the making of shingles. The other owners were Harvey Lantz and Mr. Fenner, each party operating the mill two days per week. There was a grist mill next to the shingle mill but it was independent of the shingle mill, and William had no interest in it. About 1899 William sold out, moved to the US and built a house at 60 Hamilton Avenue, Hamilton, MA. The Woodworths settled here because their three daughters were all living in and around Ipswich, MA.

William and Lavenia's children were all born in Stanborne, Nova Scotia:
--Willard Parker, born 7 Jan 1862, died 28 Aug 1871, buried Barrs Corner, Nova Scotia
--Adelia, born 9 Jan 1869, married Walter Atkinson, a widower, and resided in Ipswich, MA where Walter had a retail fish route. No children. She was buried in Woodworth Lot in Highland Cemetery, Ipswich, MA.
--Bessie Jane, born 8 Oct 1872, married Arthur Atkinson on 7 Mar 1901, died 22 July 1968 in Exeter, NH and was buried in Woodworth Lot in Highland Cemetery, Ipswich, MA.
--Carried Brenda, born 5 Oct 1874, married Norman James Conrad, died 16 Mar 1955 and was buried in Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton MA. Norman was born 12 Jun 1870 and died in 1925.

James Fleming1,2

M, ID# 2754, (c 1801 - )
Charts:Richard Carl Murphy lineage
James Fleming was born c 1801 at Ireland. He married Barbara Mehlman on 22 Mar 1832 at Dutch Reformed Church, Lunenburg, Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia, Canada.
James and Barbara Fleming married in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia in 1832, their children were born in the county until at least 1845, and three of their children married there in 1862 and 1865, so James's household was most likely in Lunenburg County for that entire period. In 1838 James was listed on the Assessment and Poll Tax records.

In 1861 James was on the Lunenburg County census with 3 males and 9 females including 1 female over 1 and under 2 years of age, which would have been Cassie; and 1 male and 2 females over 5 and under 15 who could not read or write.

James and Barbara took in their grandson Titus Woodworth to live after the 1868 death of his father Silas Woodworth and likely his mother.

Church records show Barbara had children from 1833 to 1845 on a two-year rotation and all were christened in Lunenburg churches. Burton, James P., Odias and Cassie Fleming born ~1850 -1860; living in James' household in 1871 and 1881; and not on lists of children christened in Lunenburg were possibly too young to be the children of Barbara. Born in 1811, on average Barbara's childbearing would have tapered off and ended about 1853, however the 1871 census included these children surnamed Fleming living in the household who cannot be attributed to her oldest son. So either Barbara was remarkably able to bear children until she was 49 or the family took in more relatives' children.
