William McChristen was the first documented ancestor in the powerful Christian family of Milntown, Isle of Man and of Ewanrigg, Cumberland. He was one of the twenty-four members of the House of Keys who were nominated from the lists of free, and probably wealthy, men on the island.

When John Stanley II became King of England and of Man in 1414, John II convened a Tynwald or meeting in an effort to restore peace to Man. William was present at the Tynwald in 1422 at St John's, Isle of Man when the governing laws for the island were first written down and promulgated.
